Hydrogen is emerging as the fuel of choice for the carbon reduction of stationary and vehicular power generation. Nevertheless, hydrogen presents challenges with safety, handling, and storage.

EPSIM puts at your service its expertise in hydrogen, including cryogenic processes, Temperature Swing Adsorption, reformer and electrolyzer production, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance.

Air Separation Plants produce oxygen and nitrogen, often with argon as a byproduct. EPSIM's services include:

  • Subject Matter Expert
  • Client representation
  • Safety training
  • Risk studies, HAZOP, HAZID
  • De-bottlenecking studies
  • Performance analysis and monitoring
  • Over-the-fence contract review
  • Feasibility studies
  • Project and process engineering
  • Equipment specifications
  • Plant relocation studies

Representative Projects

Air Separation Plants

  • Subject Matter Expert for the Material Business Interruption Risk study of four air separation units with tonnage ranging from 240 to 1,600 tonnes of oxygen per day. (Papua New Guinea)

  • Designed liquid oxygen and nitrogen back-up systems immune to power black-out. (Indonesia)

  • Developed the engineering and cost studies to relocate two air separation plants. Reviewed O2 supply contract and developed comparative cost/benefit analysis to plant ownership. (USA)

  • Client representative for the construction and start-up of more than 20 cryogenic air separation and gas liquefaction plants in the USA, Canada, Chile, Argentina, Singapore, Indonesia and Australia.

  • Investigated and resolved client concerns on oxygen supply to arc furnaces. Report resulted in oxygen supplier refunding approximately 80 percent of billing. (USA)

  • Designed air separation plant and provided process expertise for the IGCC coal gasification immersive simulator. (NETL/DOE)

Custom Processes and Projects

  • Designed an indoor testing facility for the advanced liquid oxygen plant outfitted on the USS Gerald Ford aircraft carrier. Assisted in commissioning the prototype unit. (USA)

  • Designed liquefier for an offshore wind application (USA)

Hydrogen

  • Provided engineering support for the re-certification and permitting of a liquid hydrogen tank. (USA)

  • Guided the risk assessment study, HAZID, and regulatory compliance per SOLAS, IMO, and Lloyd's Register for a methanol-to-hydrogen reformer to be deployed in maritime applications. (USA)

  • Provided engineering support for a green hydrogen opportunity, using electrolyzers powered by renewable energy with alternative form of hydrogen storage.  (Canada - First Nation)
